Brake fluid is added to the brake master cylinder reservoir, under the hood on the driver side.
Remove the fill cap and add it at the brake fluid master cylinder reservoir. Located on or near the master cylinder.
take the lid off the master cylinder reservoir and fill the reservoir completely and put the lid back on.
Well, if the brake fluid is fine, yet there is a message saying "brake fluid" or "low brake fluid level", then there is a possibility that that the float sensor in the reservoir is faulty, the wiring leading to the sensor is faulty, or the computer is faulty.
On the drivers side of the vehicle, remove plastic vent screen at bottom of windshield. Using a regular screwdriver,to remove the plastic screws. Under it you will find a yellow capped reservoir this is you brake fluid reservoir. Insure you put correct brake fluid. The cap has minimum specifications as to what kind to use.
On my girlfriends 2001 Escape it came on because the brake fluid was low. Open the hood and look at the fluid reservoir. If it is not filled to the full line, fill it with the proper brake fluid and see if the light goes out.
It's between the battery and the brake fluid reservoir. Flip back the two clips to open.

There is no rear fluid reservoir. The fluid is pumped from the reservoir under the hood that feeds the windshield washers.
