When do colleges start to look at you?

Most of the time it's between sophmore and junior year, the junior year is when you hear a lot about colleges and go on tours and start looking. Colleges look at all your records from all your years of high school. They take interest in your SAT and ACT in your junior and senior years. So you should do well in all 4 years of high school. The two most important years are sophomore and junior years. These are the two years you ABSOLUTELY can NOT mess up. However, the colleges look at your cumalitive GPA and your rank in class. So really, you shouldn't mess up in any of the 4 years. Just do your best all four years, and you'll do fine.

Colleges usually look at what classes you have taken in the past, what your grades were in those classes, job history, disciplinary record, extracurricular activities, clubs, honor societies, and other various things that have to do with you and your lifestyle.

When applying for the Fall semester, applications should be submitted by the end of January or early February. For the Spring semester, early October. In other words, as soon as possible!
As soon as u finish high school!!!! All colleges only accept a certin amount of students. So to make sure you get in to the college of your choice. Now lets say you have been out of high school a while and now you want to go to college. You can apply at any time just make sure you know the dates of when the semester starts because you don't apply for the spring semester and you get accepted in to the college and you learn you have 2 days to set up your classes

You start submititng college applications during your senior year. But you should start deciding what colleges your intrested during Junior year so that you know the deadlines of the applications.

Contrary to what many people believe, colleges will look at you from the moment you step foot in high school! Sure, they are going to look especially closely at what happens in your Junior year, but everything you do in high school is going to be considered when you apply to college. Especially in light of the new Coalition application, which gives students as young as 9th grade the opportunity to start sharing their information (scores, essays, etc) and to communicate with colleges!

And this is a GOOD thing. It takes away that intense pressure that many students put exclusively on their Junior Year, and gives you a lot more time to build your overall profile for your college applications.

The truth is, colleges want well-rounded students. They want students who are more than a good GPA and a high SAT/ACT score. (The things that people tend to focus on in their Junior year because they think that is the most important thing!) They want students who will contribute to the community on campus, who will bring their unique perspectives to the classroom, and who will engage with everything the school has to offer. And they will "screen" students for those things based on what they do (and how they evolve) throughout high school. So it is important to start thinking about college as soon as you get to high school. If you get involved in activities you LOVE during 9th grade, you then have another 2 FULL years to engage in those activities by the time you get to college. You can get more involved and even take on leadership positions over time. So by the time you apply, the colleges can look back and see how active you were and how much you cared about those activities throughout high school, which is obviously going to look GREAT to the admissions committee.

And this goes for school work, too! The admissions committees will look at all of the classes you took, and all of the grades you got to see how you progressed. Were you challenging yourself in high school or just coasting through with easy classes? Did your grades start out strong and then dip, or did you improve over time?

[Now, don't let this scare you. If you're in 9th grade and maybe your grades aren't as strong as you'd like them to be or you haven't found any activities that interest you just yet, it doesn't mean you have ruined your chances at a good college. Colleges want to see PROGRESS. So if you can get your grades up moving forward (and keep them up) and if you can start to get involved in some activities now, you're going to be just fine :) That's why starting early is so important - you've got TIME on your side!]

They want to see... all of it! So don't sit back and kick your feet up for your first year or two of high school. Don't wait until you are a Junior to start planning for college. Colleges know when you start doing things just for the sake of your applications and - hint hint - they don't like it :) Get focused and get involved as early as possible and use all of the time you've got to your advantage!
