Sieg heil means victory salvation. It was a chant used by the Nazi party to inspire loyalty and devotion to the party and their leadership. After the pain of defeat and the various troubles of Germany following WWI, the two things Germans wanted were to feel strong and secure, such as to not know hunger, to not live in ruined cities with incompetent, unproductive government bickering while people suffered and tried to rebuild their everyday lives, and all their money went to pay tribute to the countries that had defeated them. So the chant Sieg Heil inspired the people to blindly follow the charismatic leaders to rallies, elections, and right into a police state.
