From my experience, schools in my area require kids in the 3rd grade and above to use Three Ring Binders. At this grade level, the amount of school work increases dramatically and children usually start having different teachers for each subject. Using a Three Ring Binder teaches children organizational skills, and is usually large enough to hold all their work. If children are required to put their in class work and home work into a Three Ring Binder it can also teach them to take responsibility for themselves and their work. If they have put their work where it belongs, then it can't go missing. There are so many binders in the market place now, even ones that are Antimicrobial.

A three-ring binder is a type of binder that is primarly used by school children to hold their paper, school work, and homework. It contains three metal rings which are designed to hold standard lined paper, such as college-ruled or wide-ruled paper. These folders are also used by card collectors. Special plastic inserts have the three-hole punch to hold sports cards and other collectible cards.
