Most seminary teachers outside of the highly Mormon populations in the west are entirely volunteer and they receive no compensation, salary, or retirement benefits. They serve as seminary teachers as a church calling, just like being a Sunday School teacher.

In places with high Mormon populations (mostly Utah), seminary is a part of the school day, and being a seminary teacher is a paid full-time job. Some seminary teachers make more than others, based on their education and experience. As with most jobs, the retirement benefits vary based on how long you have been in your position.

Is Northwestern Theological Seminary a Christian or Mormon school?

Northwestern Theological Seminary is an online Christian seminary program offering "theologically accredited degrees through full online programs." Their site claims that their program is "conservative, evangelical, and non-denominational", and a FAQ states that they are "absolutely not" affiliated with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, but rather with the Worldwide Church of Jesus Christ, a branch of Christian Alliance Ministries. This seminary and the affiliated church and ministries teach many things that are contrary to Mormon doctrines and do not seem to have a favorable view of Mormonism. Here is their official website: Northwestern Theological SeminaryNorthwestern is not in any way affiliated with or connected to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (commonly called the "Mormon" church). Mormons have an all lay clergy - meaning they do not require (or even offer) seminary degrees or theological education to preach or lead a congregation. (These responsibilities are actually rotated among all members rather than having a pastor run the church and preach every week.) Mormons do have seminaries, but they are actually a scripture-study program for high school students, most of whom are Mormon kids considering serving as missionaries after graduation. Mormon seminary could be compared to a Jewish Hebrew School or Catholic CCD. Mormon seminaries are optional and are just meant to bolster the faith and religious understanding of teens, not to qualify anyone for ministry. How much money do Mormon seminary teachers make?

All who serve in the Mormon church do it because of their love for Christ, Seminary teachers do not receive payment for their services, though they are reembursed for any out of pocket expenses. Only those who work full time receive any wages. Most of the church leaders are quite capable of looking after themselves finacially. All Bishops and anyone holding any positon receive no pay, but have jobs to support themselves. May I also mention that all true Mormons are TITHE payers, and give a tenth of what they earn back to the Lord. Another Answer: Actually, although this is true for our callings being a seminary teacher is not a calling in our church. When it comes to being a full time seminary teacher, it is a job. They teach a subject, religion, just as much as the English and math teachers in high school and they are paid for their job. I am friends with my old seminary teacher from high school and because he has a masters degree he is paid a normal Oregon teacher salary (45kish). My best friends husband is also a part time seminary teacher (he works for an hour in the morning for early morning seminary that starts before classes start at the high school for those students that can't take a block out of their schedule) and he makes a good salary for that as well. Hope this helps clarify! Let me know if you have any more questions!

What is seminary for the Mormans?

Teenage members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) are encouraged to attend Seminary classes. Seminary is usually held before or after school at a local church building or in someone's home. In Utah, high schools are allowed to offer religious classes as non-credit electives, so most Utah high school students can attend Mormon Seminary during the school day. Seminary is a four year program, with each year focused on one of the following subjects: Old Testament, New Testament, Book of Mormon, and Church History. Seminary is a mix between a Sunday School class and a school class. The class is opened with a hymn, prayer, and devotional, then the teacher lectures and guides a more scholarly study of scripture. You do not have to be Mormon to attend Mormon seminary, so if you are interested in seeing what it is like you are welcome to attend, your Mormon friends should know when and where the classes are held. You can also download the textbooks for these classes too see what they study at the "Related Links" below. Similar classes are available to college students and young adults ages 18-30. This program is called Institute of Religion. There are more classes available through the Institute program, and Institutes also offer social activities and worship services. Non-Mormons are welcome to attend all the Institute classes and activities as well. Check out the "Related Links" to find an Institute near you or to download the textbooks for the classes offered through Institute. Unlike most other Christian churches, Seminary is not required to be ordained or to preach within the Mormon church. For Mormons, Seminary and Institute are a way for young people to learn more about their religion and to spend time with others who share their standards and beliefs. It is not a training program or school to become an ordained preacher.
