4.0 GPA means a perfect average...like a 100. But if you take an AP class you can get up to a 5.0 GPA for that class. So a 4.8 GPA means that your grade average for all your classes is 4.8 out of 4, or 120%. It is only possible if you take AP.

A high score like 4.8/5.0 is difficult to achieve unless the student consistently scores well in high level classes since only AP/GT and Honors classes would give you this kind of value.
