What are the functions in Physical Education programs?
There are many functions that physical education exists to
fulfill. One of these is that it teaches children about a healthy
lifestyle. Often physical education teachers include a segment
about healthy eating, what this includes, and its benefits in their
curriculum. That way children know what to eat to jeep themselves
healthy, and, in theory, it helps lower childhood obesity rates.
Another function of physical education is that it makes children
exercise. Exercise is an essential part of a healthy lifestyle,
and, let's face it, most children aren't going to do that on their
own. By playing team sports in gym class, they are doing that, and
hopefully having fun at the same time. A final function of physical
education classes is that it gives students a chance to "blow of
some steam", to use a common term. Because of the increasingly
demanding standards and testing of today's schools, Students often
use their recess to study rather than run around and tire
themselves out as they probably did in elementary school. They need
PE as a time to get rid of the ants in their pants from being
seated for multiple straight hours, and Physical Education is a
safe, supervised way to do that. Those are the three main functions
of Physical Education.
