Actually, it's illegal to use someone else copy writted material. A name is fine. If some one was to say, Steve for instance (yeah, I know. That's not very evil. It's just and example) you wouldn't get in trouble for using it. I'm sure that there were books with the name Alice, or Jacob before Twilight came out. It's only bad if the name is really unique and it's already in a piece of copy writted material. If you were to name a character Frodo, people would be like "hey that's from Lord of the Rings!" So go ahead and ask for names it's alright.
