The first college to accept women was Oberlin College in 1848. Oberlin has a liberal tradition that is still strong today. It was also one of the first colleges to allow men/women to live on the same floors in the dormitories.
First of all it is NOT a University. Oberlin is a college, and has always been known as one. They are in Oberlin, Ohio, and were established in l833, the oldest Co-ed college in the United States.

Oberlin College, in Oberlin, Ohio, ( still very much extant) has been Co-ed since its establishment in l833. It may be argued the fictional Stanhope college in Supergirl comics was a take-off on Oberlin. A Berline ( not spelling) was a type of Horse-drawn carriage as was a Stanhope. Nothing buggy about it.
