What is Mackinac island?
Mackinac Island was named by the Ojibwa after a bluff that
resembles a large turtle. Today, Mackinac Island, in the Mackinac
Straits, is a "car free zone" and a top vacation spot in the state.
The world's longest freshwater yachting event, the
Chicago-to-Mackinac Island race, ends at the island every July. It
is in Michigan.
