It's obvious that someone in her family is black because she looks like an African-American instead of an Arab. In my experience, many Egyptians try to "pass" and deny their African heritage, which is ironic considering that Egypt is on the continent of Africa.
Back in college, a friend of mine (whose White) handed a new "Egyptian" girl a flyer that discussed the Black Student Association on campus. The girl responded, "I'm not black, I'm white." Funny thing was: she looked totally African-American: her skin color, hair texture, everything. My friend and I just stared at her. She finally walked away, embarassed as Hell.
