No a 3.79 is not considered an A. It would be an A- which equates to 3.75-3.99. To have an A GPA you need a 4.0 or above. An A+ GPA is a 4.5.

If you're talking about the United States, that is incorrect. A 3.5 or better is an A. There is a lot of incorrect information on this site regarding this topic.
