The GED Testing Service sets the absolute minimum age at 16. However, individual jurisdictions are allowed to set their own minimums as long as they are not lower than that.
It differs by state. Some states require you to wait until your original class graduates. Contact the School Board or the Superintendent of schools in your County (should be in phone book under City or County Government).
In most (43) states, you have to be 18 or older to take the GED test. Sometimes the state also requires that you not be enrolled in school. Also, many schools and employers prefer to see the high school diploma, so if you are planning something specific in your future, make sure dropping out and getting a GED isn't going to cause a long-term problem.
