I am no expert or anything but i have been looking for the same answer because i want to be a forensic nurse. As I read in various other places you have to go to accredited college and get your RN (registered nurse) A RN requires up to 2-4 years depending on if you want associate degree or bachelor degree in Science degree in Nursing. Then once you get your nursing license in the state you will be practicing in. After at least 3 years in experience as an RN you then take some special training through forensic nursing courses.

Typically, the minimum educational requirement is a master's degree which would take two to three years post bachelor's degree. However, most psychologist within this field and those who are involved with meaningful and authoritative research have a doctorate degree which takes approximately four years post bachelor's degree.

So could someone let me know the total amount of years of school I would need to finish before I could be a forensic psychologist

There are three options to become a registered nurse as follows.

  • diploma program (typically three years, not recommended for individuals who do not have an already existing degree)
  • associate degree (two years as a full-time student once the student starts the professional phase of the program)
  • bachelor's degree (BSN) (four years as a full-time student)

Their are many factors which infulence the amount of study time or years in which you will have to study to become a nurse. The country in which you will be studying; your qualifications already etc. Also the type of Nurse (RGN, RMN) or specialist nurse. In the UK all nurses and midwifes need to be registered with the NMC (nursing and midwifery council) before they can practise. To obtain a license you will need to have completed sufficient amount of both practical and theory hours.

I am planning on becoming a RGN as i am already a HCA and love it!

Hope this helps :-)
