What are rationing cards?
During World War II, many supplies that we take for granted were
in very short supply, mostly because they were needed by the
military. Gasoline, tires, butter, and many other goods were not
readily available. As a means of promoting "fairness" in the
distribution of scarce supplies, a ration card system was
imposed.
Thus, ration cards are cards or stamps that allowed the
government to ration out food and supplies to that card or stamp
holder when they were in short supply.
