Synthesis is mechanically or chemically combining separate parts into a whole. When chemically synthesizing a compound, the elements required are typically the smaller building blocks of the compound, proper temperature and physically conducive environment, and some sort of catalyst, like energy or a bonding element, to bridge the two into a state where they can combine.
