Homework can be confusing! Here are some tips to help you figure it out:

  • Be sure you know what the assignment is - you can make a homework assignment notebook, where you copy down every assignment from every class in one place so you won't lose it.
  • Be sure you know what the teacher wants - if there is anything at all about the homework that confuses you, ask before you leave class! Most likely, half the class had the same problem and were afraid to ask.
  • Use your book! Many time, the homework is actually written down exactly the way you need it inside your textbook! If you haven't read the section yet, get out the book and look for the answers.
  • Use the internet! If you still can't find the answer, use a search engine to find out how to do the homework - don't try to find a cheat because then you'll never know how to do the next homework you get!

Use any kind of device that you need. But make sure they are not distractions. Go to your room and make sure that nobody is bothering you. Do the easiest homework first, so you can get it out of the way. Stay up as long as you need to. Your parents would understand.

You can look the answer up in your textbook. If you don't find it there, you might be able to find the answer online or on this site. If you can't find the answer, ask your teacher or classmates where you can find the answer.

Teachers can make homework in many ways - usually they have a set of questions in their teacher's edition of the textbook that they use as a basic idea. They ask the sorts of questions that they know you could answer if you understood the material, and they make up problems for math and science so you can practice doing them. Most teachers just use their experience to help them make the homework.

If you honestly do not know how to begin, you need to contact the teacher and ask for more instruction. If you have already gotten home and cannot talk to the teacher, try these things first:

  • Read the textbook again to see if you can figure out how to do that specific work
  • Use an online search engine and see if there is a homework help site for that subject
  • Make sure you understand what every word means - use a dictionary if you need to
  • Ask your friends if they will help you learn how to do that particular part
If you still can't do it, take whatever you wrote down in to the teacher - tell them straight away that you just did not understand how to do it, and ask if they will schedule a tutor or give you extra time to learn how to do it.
