First, read over the textbook and your notes to see what you're supposed to be doing and remind yourself of the material.

Second, try searching the internet for help on that assignment - there are a lot of very good homework help websites out there!

Third, if you still can't figure it out, do your best and ask the teacher for extra help tomorrow. You're probably not the only person in class who had problems with it.

Lastly, don't be put off trying because you are worried you won't do well. You learn by doing, and from your mistakes. You won't succeed if you don't have a go!

The first thing to be done is to figure out why you're depressed! Do you need help with this aspect, as in a psychiatrist or therapist to help you get over the depression and get on with your normal life again? Get that help if you need it - there's absolutely no reason to be miserable when depression can be treated so easily!

The second step is to follow these tips:

  • Take baby steps - instead of trying to do everything at once, focus on getting one section done at a time. Let the rest of it wait until you finish the first bit, then take a 5 minute break and start on the second section. It might take longer to finish, but you're more likely to do it all this way than if you tackle all of it head on.
  • Reward yourself - get with your parents, explain you're having trouble and want some help, and figure out a good reward system. One way is for them to put a little money into a jar for every piece of homework that you pass - then, at the end of a certain time period, you can have the money to buy yourself something you want. Another way is to have a special family outing if you pass a certain number of assignments.
  • Encourage yourself - keep a big calendar in your room and write down all of your assignments on it - whenever you finish one, cross it off with a big X mark! Just looking at how much you've finished will cheer you up. You can also write yourself little encouraging notes and post them around the room - like "You can do it!" "Kill the homework!" "Just do it!" and other stuff like that.
