The USA has enjoyed a reasonably free market mixed economy, However it is not a capitalist country. in a capitalist country there would be absolutely no involvement in public welfare, you would not have your prisons full of junkies because there would be no reason to deny people their freedom to kill them selves there would be no bailout with socially raised money to bail out an irresponsible finance sector to save the man in the street from starving to death. all of these bad things would simply be described as things that are a natural part of ta free market economy and for "the good of mankind", which is also a socialist concept.
