Jet streams flow from west to east in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. These fast-flowing, narrow air currents are typically found at high altitudes in the atmosphere, often exceeding 100 mph in speed.

In the US, it generally travels from west to EAST. It can have vary a lot and can dip towards South and abruptly back to the North at times. The Jet Streams also account for the reason that travelling from West to East "seems quicker" than going East to West. The time zone changes also is a factor.

Which is stronger polar jet stream or subtropical jet stream?

The polar jet stream is generally stronger and faster-moving than the subtropical jet stream. The polar jet stream forms at higher latitudes and is located closer to the poles, while the subtropical jet stream is located at lower latitudes. The polar jet stream is associated with larger temperature contrasts and stronger pressure gradients, resulting in stronger winds compared to the subtropical jet stream.

Global wind that wraps around the earth?

The global wind system that wraps around Earth is known as the jet stream. There are two main jet streams in each hemisphere – the polar jet stream and the subtropical jet stream – that flow from west to east at high altitudes in the atmosphere. Jet streams play a key role in shaping weather patterns and can influence the movement of storms and air masses.

What statement is true of jet streams A. The subtropical jet stream lies between the westerlies and polar easterlies. B. The subtropical jet stream flows to the east while the polar jet stream flows?

A. The subtropical jet stream lies between the westerlies and polar easterlies; this statement is true. B. The polar jet stream typically flows to the east, while the subtropical jet stream flows towards the west.

Which statement is true of jet streams?

Jet streams are fast, narrow air currents in the atmosphere, typically found at high altitudes between 7 and 12 kilometers. They flow from west to east due to the Earth's rotation. Jet streams play a significant role in shaping weather patterns and can influence the movement of storms.

Each hemisphere has two narrow belts of fast moving winds called?

The two narrow belts of fast-moving winds in each hemisphere are known as the Jet Streams. They flow high in the atmosphere at altitudes of around 10 kilometers and are influenced by temperature gradients between air masses. The Polar Jet Stream is found closer to the poles, while the Subtropical Jet Stream is located closer to the equator.

What is a jet?

A jet can be either a stream or flow of liquidor gas, an airplane using jet engines, or, as a verb, to spray out of a container.

General direction of flow of the jet stream is toward the?

west to east

Can clouds ride the jet stream?

Clouds are pushed by wind currents, including the jet stream, but they do not "ride" the jet stream like a vehicle would. The jet stream can affect the position and movement of clouds, but clouds are not carried along by the jet stream in the same way that a plane might be.

What wind usually flow in the upper troposphere from west to east for thousands of kkilometers?

the jet stream

What usually flow in the upper troposphere from west to east for thousands of kilometers?

What is the jet stream of Jamaica?

The jet stream refers to a high-speed, narrow air current in the atmosphere. Jamaica does not have a jet stream of its own, as jet streams typically flow at higher altitudes in the Northern Hemisphere, affecting weather patterns globally.

What determines how far south the the cold air from the north pole travels?

The jet stream

Which is stronger polar jet stream or subtropical jet stream?

The polar jet stream is generally stronger and faster-moving than the subtropical jet stream. The polar jet stream forms at higher latitudes and is located closer to the poles, while the subtropical jet stream is located at lower latitudes. The polar jet stream is associated with larger temperature contrasts and stronger pressure gradients, resulting in stronger winds compared to the subtropical jet stream.

Where did the Jet Stream get its name?

The term "jet stream" originated from the concept of a concentrated flow of high-speed air resembling a narrow, fast-moving stream of water. The Jet Stream was first identified by Japanese meteorologists in the early 20th century before being widely recognized by the US Army Air Corps during World War II.

What is the difference between a continental jet stream and a polar jet stream?

A continental jet-stream travels parallel to the equator - a polar jet-stream travels in a north/south direction.
