Because ammonium nitrate is known as the chemical most likely to be misused as an explosive, every state with an agriculture industry (all of them) requires every seller to be licensed, and every buyer to present picture ID. Further, every state's ammonium nitrate law allows sellers to refuse to sell this product for any reason without liability to themselves. Essentially, if you're not a farmer who shops at that store all the time, you're not getting any Ammonium Nitrate.

The Department of Homeland Security also intends, if they haven't done it already, to implement a requirement that ammonium nitrate purchasers be licensed, and that sellers have a federal license for it.

That is not an answer to what he asked... He asked who sells it, not "What are the legal safeguards in place to keep terrorists from obtaining AN?"

So in response to his question:

If you intend to use it for agricultural purposes(where high purity is not an issue), try a feed store or farm supply co-op... Try calling them first- Honestly, your question is too vague- stores where? Where do you live anyway? It may be out of season in your area... Other than farm stores you can get it from instant cold packs (technical grade) or from chemical supply houses if you need very pure reagent or ACS grades, however that is a very expensive option...

If you are intending to use it as an explosive, you can get it from an explosives/blasting supply company, but make sure you first acquire a high explosives user permit from ATF; and do your detonations in a safe, uninhabited area- nearby houses or buildings, for example, can have their windows blown out from the pressure waves from a large enough AN/ANFO explosion (very large explosions (multi-hundred pound quantities,) can even reflect their overpressure off of cloud cover). Also make sure you read up on safety procedures regarding the subject, or we will be reading about another idiot who killed himself because he dropped a cigarette on a case of blasting caps which he left sitting on top of his boosters and a 50lb bag of ANFO...

I know he asked what stores sell it, but this is the thing: this is a product where anyone who's got a legitimate use for it already knows where to get it. If you're a farmer you know it's a fertilizer and fertilizer comes from Southern States or Cenex. If you're a coal miner you know to call the Gulf Explosives guy or Atlas Powder and they'll bring you all you want. So! This guy is either trying to make a great big bang in the middle of the field because he likes loud noise, or he's going to blow something up.

Besides, ANFO is a horrible explosive if you're not a miner. It doesn't have much brisance compared to something like TNT or gel explosive so you have to use a lot of it, and you have to cap it with dynamite to get it to go off in the first place. Coal miners like it because it's cheaper than dirt and all they need do to get enough explosive power to do the work they need to do is to just drill bigger holes.

What is a safe distance from private drinking well to fertilize a garden?

Most common garden fertilizers are safe to use even directly over the well area. This is because most of the components of the fertilizer are not mobile within the soil. This means that at the molecular level, the particles of fertilizer attach themselves to clay particles within the soil, and thus are unable to move any deeper than tilling depth. The one component you need to watch is the nitrogen component, because some formulations of nitrogen will move down through the soil profile. If your fertilizer has an ammonium-type formulation of nitrogen, and you fertilize to only the level your garden needs, then even that will not move down to the level of your well. The amount of nitrogen in your fertilizer is indicated by the first number of three on the label. Thus, a 32-16-9 fertilizer is 33% nitrogen. The "analysis" part of the label will tell you what kind of nitrogen it is, whether ammonium or nitrate. Nitrates are somewhat mobile within some soil types, especially if they are over-applied.Additionally, some soil types simply do not allow nutrients to leach down through the soil at all. Heavy clay-type soils are a good example of this.If you still have concerns, 50 feet is a safe distance from any potential contaminant. I am unaware of any contaminent of any type that can move 50 feet sideways through the soil. Surface runoff must be considered as well, since that can move much greater distances very easily.

What is 4 squared plus 5 squared plus 7 minus 4 plus 33?

Follow the algebraic order of operations. I see no parenthesis (grouping), so it will be 16 + 25 + 7 - 4 + 33 = 41+ 7 - 4 + 33 = 48 - 4 + 33 = 44 + 33 = 77 be aware that non-scientific calculators such as those found at 99 cent stores do not follow the algebraic order of operations. Scientific calculators do.
