Both weathering and erosion are processes that break down and transport materials on Earth's surface. Weathering refers to the breakdown of rocks and minerals into smaller fragments, while erosion involves the movement of these fragmented materials from one place to another by agents like water, wind, or ice.

Weathering is the action of weather conditions in altering the color, texture, composition, or form of exposed objects; specifically : the physical disintegration and chemical decomposition of earth materials at or near the earth's surface. This is also erosion. They are basically one in the same, because erosion comprises of physical (or mechanical) weathering and chemical weathering. Physical weathering can be wind, ice wedging, waves; it generally has to be something that physically impacts something else. Chemical weathering would be like oxidation or water. Hope this helped.

Without agents of erosion, weathered particles would remain in the same place. Through erosion, however, weathered particles are carried to new locations.

Does weathering must take place before erosion?

Weathering does not necessarily have to take place before erosion. While weathering is the breakdown of rocks into smaller particles, erosion is the process of transporting these particles to a new location. Weathering can occur simultaneously with erosion or even after erosion has started.

Do weathering and erosion happen at the same time?

Weathering and erosion are related processes that often occur simultaneously. Weathering breaks down rocks into smaller pieces, while erosion transports these pieces to a different location. Both processes work together to shape the Earth's surface over time.

Is weathering the same as a erosion?

No, weathering and erosion are not the same. Weathering is the process of breaking down rocks and minerals on the Earth's surface into smaller pieces, while erosion is the process of transporting those weathered materials to a different location by wind, water, or ice. Weathering precedes erosion in the natural process of landscape formation.

Are weathering and erosion the same process or opposites?

Weathering and erosion are related but distinct processes. Weathering refers to the breakdown of rocks and minerals at or near the Earth's surface, while erosion involves the transportation and removal of those weathered materials by natural forces like water, wind, or ice. Weathering prepares the material for erosion to take place.

Is their any weathering and erosion on Mars?

Weathering on Mars is primarily caused by wind erosion due to its thin atmosphere. The lack of liquid water limits traditional weathering processes seen on Earth. However, there is evidence of ancient river valleys and fluvial features suggesting past erosion by water.

In what order do deposition weathering and erosion occur?

first the weathering happens which causes an erosion which makes deposition.
