In the USA we call it the ground. If there is a cross in the wires from hot to common the ground or earth wire will give the electricity an easier path to the ground instead of going through a live person. The earth is attached in the main box to a copper rod hammered into the ground. This makes it easier for electricity to get to the ground.

The earth wire in a plug is a safety feature that provides a path for electric current to safely flow to the ground in case of a fault. This helps prevent electric shocks and fires by directing excess current away from the user.

Why do you need an earth wire in a plug?

The earth wire in a plug provides a path for electric current to safely flow to the ground in case of a fault, such as a short circuit or malfunction. This helps prevent electric shocks and protects against fires.

What colour is the earth wire in a plug?

In USA, Canada and other countries which run a 60 Hz electrical power network, the color of the insulation of the ground or earth wire is plain green, or plain bare copper wire can be used.In countries in Europe and elsewhere, which run a 50 Hz electrical power network, the color of the insulation of the earth or ground wire is yellow/green.As always, if you are in doubt about what to do, the best advice anyone should give you is to call a licensed electrician to advise what work is needed. Before you do any work yourself,on electrical circuits, equipment or appliances, always use a test meter to ensure the circuit is, in fact, de-energized.IF YOU ARE NOT ALREADY SURE YOU CAN DO THIS JOBSAFELY AND COMPETENTLYREFER THIS WORK TO QUALIFIED PROFESSIONALS.

What is a function of earth wire?

The earth wire connects the metal frame of the electrical appliances to the ground. The convention is to have green colour for earth wires. The purpose of earthing is that in case of an insulation failure in some appliance, this wire connected to the metal body will provide a path for the current to flow on the ground. In absence of earth wire, this fault current would have flown through the body of the operator, causing electrical shock.

Which part of the of a washing machine should the earth wire be connected to?

The earth wire of a washing machine should be connected to the metal chassis of the machine to prevent electric shock and ensure safety.

What is different netural and ground or earth?

The neutral wire carries current back to the source in a circuit, while the ground or earth wire is used as a safety measure to protect against electric shock. The neutral wire is a current-carrying conductor under normal operation, whereas the ground wire carries no current except during fault conditions.

Which wire is not present in a 2 pin plug?

In a 2-pin plug, the wire that is not present is the grounding wire. This type of plug only has two prongs for the live and neutral wires, unlike a 3-pin plug that includes a grounding wire for added safety.

What are the names of the three wires in a plug?

The three wires in a plug are typically called live, neutral, and earth wires. The live wire carries the current to the appliance, the neutral wire completes the circuit and carries the current back, and the earth wire is a safety feature to prevent electric shocks.

What is the green and yellow wire in a plug called?

that's the earth plug and it must be connected, otherwise circuit protection will not operate properly.

Wiring diagram of plug wire and their order?

With the cover off the plug and looking from the back at the screws the "Live" wire [generally red or brown] goes to the Left - and the "Neutral" wire [generally green] gos to the Right.Another way of putting this would be to say that the red wire must be connected to the prong that goes into the Left hole in the plug outlet in the wall.It is good practice to coil the earth wire in the plug so that, should the lead by tugged hard, it will be the LAST wire to become disconnected from the screws in the plug.AnswerCorrection .... sorry!! With the cover off the plug and looking from the back at the screws the "Live" wire [generally red or brown] goes to the Left - and the "Neutral" wire [generally BLUE] goes to the Right. The Earth [genarally green] goes to the centre prong - assuming it is a 3-pin plug.

What are the three wires in a plug called?

The green and yellow is the earth wire The brown is the live wire The blue is the neutral wire A poem to help is: The brown live cow drinks from the blue neutral water and eats the green grass from earth

Is it okay to use an adapter to change a three pin plug into a two pin plug?

No, it is not ok, it is potentially very dangerous because the two-wire cable has no earth with it. The earth wire is an important safety component that comes with a three-pin plug. An exception can be made for certain low-power appliances that have double insulation. This includes TV sets, radios, and table lights provided the mounting is plastic and not metal. These appliances are commonly sold with a twin-wire cable but often with a three-pin plug on the end of it. The three-pin plug in this case often has a plastic 'earth' pin and it is safe to replace it with a two-pin plug.
