Loam is a type of soil that has sand, silt and clay. A sandy loam would have more of sand in it, with the particles more free and gritty. The water holding capacity of sandy loam would be quite ideal for most plants as it retains just the right amount of water.

Sandy silt is a type of sediment that contains a mixture of sand and silt particles. It has intermediate particle sizes between pure sand and pure silt, allowing it to exhibit properties of both types of sediment. Sandy silt is commonly found in environments where there is a mix of erosion and deposition processes occurring.

The term Sandy SILT generally consists of two words one is adjective and the other is noun

generally in USCS (unified soil classification system) the adjective represents the secondary component and noun represents the main component of soil so whenever you come across with such terms like sandy silt , silty sand, sandy gravel etc you can easily identify the secondary and main component of soil. statistically

the main component must be > 50 % by mass

the secondary component equal to 20 to 35 %

A type of soil which have

>50% silt and 20 to 35 % sand is termed as sandy SILT.

I personally suggest to have a look on USCS (unified classification system of soil) also to clear your concept more better .

How is sandy soil made?

Sandy soil is formed through the weathering of rocks, with the dominant particles being sand-sized (0.05 to 2mm). It typically has a low clay and silt content, resulting in poor water and nutrient retention. Factors such as climate, parent material, and time influence the formation of sandy soil.

What are the 15 types of soil?

The 15 types of soil are clay soil, sandy soil, silt soil, peat soil, loam soil, chalky soil, saline soil, acidic soil, alkaline soil, silty soil, black soil, red soil, laterite soil, desert soil, and loess soil.

What are the different kinds of soil?

The main types of soil are sandy, clay, silt, and loam. Sandy soil has larger particles and does not retain water well, while clay soil has smaller particles and retains water tightly. Silt soil has medium-sized particles and provides good drainage. Loam soil is a mixture of sand, silt, and clay, making it ideal for plant growth.

What are the properties of silt soil?

Silt soil has moderate fertility, good water retention capacity, and fine particle size between sand and clay. It tends to be well-draining and can hold moisture better than sandy soil. It is susceptible to compaction when wet.

What is the percentage of sand silt and clay in a sample of soil?

The percentage of sand, silt, and clay in soil determines its texture. Soil with more than 50% sand is classified as sandy, more than 50% clay is classified as clayey, and more than 50% silt is classified as silty. The ideal soil texture for plant growth is loam, which has a relatively equal mix of sand, silt, and clay.

What are the advantages of sandy loam soil?

Sandy loam soil provides good drainage for plants, allowing roots to access water and nutrients more easily. It also has good aeration, which promotes healthy root growth. Additionally, sandy loam soil is easy to work with and has a balanced composition of sand, silt, and clay.

What is sandy clay?

Sandy clay loam (SCL) is a soil texture. A soil texture is a specific mixture of sand, silt and clay particles. SCL can have 74 to 80% sand and 20 to 35% clay. See the link on soil texture for more.

What is the difference. Between sandy soil and sand?

Sandy soil is a type of soil composed of a mixture of sand, silt, and clay particles, while sand refers specifically to the largest particle size in soil, which is granular and gritty in texture. Sandy soil contains a higher percentage of sand particles compared to other soil types.
