Greenhouse gases trap heat from the sun in the Earth's atmosphere, leading to the warming of the planet. This process is known as the greenhouse effect and is essential for maintaining Earth's temperature suitable for life. However, human activities have increased the concentration of greenhouse gases, causing global warming and climate change.

How are atmospheric gases like the gases in a greenhouse?

The glass on the greenhouse stops temperature from leaving or entering like the gases do to the earth. The atmospheric gases are called 'greenhouse gases' based on the idea that the gases 'trap' heat like the walls of a greenhouse do

What are the functions and actions of greenhouse gases?

To trap heat. The functions of greenhouse gases are to absorb heat from sunlight and trap it in the atmosphere to warm the Earth and melt the ice caps.

What do greenhouses gases trap?

Greenhouse gases trap infrared heat (from the sun) rising from the surface of the earth. More greenhouse gases trap more heat, and this is the situation now. Increasing levels of carbon dioxide (CO2) in particular are trapping more heat and causing a global warming.
