Protactinium is an Actinide element; that is it is radio-active.

Its atomic Number is 91 . Its standard atomic weight is 231

This means it is the 91st element in the Periodic Table, has 91 protons , 91 electrons and (231 - 91) = 141 neutrons.

It is in the 'f-blcck'.

It has seven(7) shells of electrons , with , starting from the inner most shell, 2,8,18,32,20,9,2 electrons in each shell.

Its shortened electron configuration is [Rd] 5f2 , 6d1, 7s2.

It is between Thorium and Uranium in the Periodic Table.

As mentioned above it is radio-active and undergoes decay to Actinium with an alpha particle being emitted.

[231/91]Pa = [4/2]He^(2+) + [227/89]Th

In its nuclear decay its half life is 32760 years.

Its appearance is a bright silvery metallic lustre.

I'm not too bad at chemistry, but one thing I can't wrap my head around is how perfect the periodic table is. How is it that each element that we know is only one more proton than the last? How come it goes in PERFECT order instead of having a few elements with protons not perfectly linear to the periodic table?
