Current thinking is people and industry burning/combusting too much fosssil fuels.
However, The oceans hold a lot of CO2 in solution. It known that it water heats up it will release any dissolved gases; think of a kettle boiling. So more could be coming from ocean warming. Ocean warming could be caused by the Sun hesting the water, or the Earth's internal 'radiator'(Mantle/core) releasing more heat , thereby warming the ocean.
They slow the loss of heat
The sun.
The glass or plastic walls of a greenhouse represent greenhouse gases in the atmosphere by trapping heat energy inside, much like how greenhouse gases in the Earth's atmosphere trap heat.
Greenhouse gases make up about 1% of Earth's atmosphere. The most abundant greenhouse gas is water vapor, followed by carbon dioxide, methane, and others. These gases trap heat in the atmosphere, leading to the greenhouse effect and contributing to climate change.
The greenhouse effect comes about when greenhouse gases in the atmosphere capture heat rising from the surface of the planet. As the moon has no atmosphere, it could not have a greenhouse effect. So the answer is: The earth.

Sunlight. The warmth rises into the atmosphere where some is trapped by greenhouse gases. These warm gases then warm the earth's surface again.

Greenhouse gases keep the earth warm.Too much greenhouse gas is causing global warming.
Greenhouse gases.
In the atmosphere. The greenhouse effect refers to the situation in the atmosphere where gases hold on to the heat rising from the earth.
Infrared radiation is the form of radiation given off by the Earth that causes heating of the Earth's atmosphere. This radiation is absorbed by greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, which traps heat and warms the planet.

Greenhouse gases, particularly carbon dioxide, are part of the Earth's atmosphere; as such, they cover all of the Earth's surface. The whole world is covered by atmosphere.
