Pangaea means "whole Earth" pan means "whole" and geae Means "Earth"

comment. The above is TRUE for the meaning, and indeed why it was chosen.

It is the name given to the (latest in a series of) super continent including all the (mainly continental) landmass of the earth. After the Triassic period it split into Laurasia and Gondwanaland, and subsequently various tectonic plates have further separated.

e.g. The Indian Plate used to lie alongside Madagascar, but split off and is still moving into the Asian Plate.

It's Greek for "whole earth".

Pangaea was a supercontinent that existed approximately 335 to 175 million years ago. It included nearly all of Earth's landmasses grouped together before they eventually separated into the continents we have today through the process of plate tectonics.

Many people believe that Alfred Wegener invented the theory of continental drift. Wegener had been struck by the remarkable fit of the Coastlines of South America and Africa. But, unlike the others who had also wondered about this, Wegener sought out many other lines of geologic and paleontologic evidence that these two continents were once joined. While recuperating in a military hospital from an injury suffered as a German soldier during World War, Wegener was able to fully develop his ideas into theTheory of Continental Drift
Pangaea was a super continent that had all the continents put together.
