Technically when you get down to elements you only have one type of atom, which is supposedly indivisible.

Depends on which level you're coming from, I'd say that from 8th grade down, you should say no. If you're more advanced, you should probably say something about subatomic particles (aka protons, neutrons, electrons).

Elements cannot be divided into smaller substances through chemical means, as they are the simplest form of matter that cannot be broken down further by chemical reactions. However, elements can be further divided into subatomic particles such as protons, neutrons, and electrons through nuclear reactions.

Can compounds be broken down into smaller substances?

Yes, compounds can be broken down into smaller substances through chemical reactions. For example, water (H2O) can be broken down into hydrogen gas (H2) and oxygen gas (O2) through electrolysis.

How many groups can matter be divided into?

Matter can be classified into two main groups: pure substances and mixtures. Pure substances are further divided into elements and compounds, while mixtures can be further categorized into homogeneous and heterogeneous mixtures based on their composition and properties.

Do two or more substances form a mixture?

Actually a substance is further divided into elements and compounds. So we say that two or more elements or compounds form a mixture, which I think can also be stated as: Mixture is a result of two substances constituted together.

What new kind of new elements?

The new kind of elements are divided into metalloids, non-metals and metals. In Chemistry, the elements are defined as the chemical substances that consist of the single type of atom that can be distinguished by the atomic number.
