Usually, but the humidity varies considerably according to the presence or absence of water (still or streams), air temperature and pressure, and natural ventilation.

I have found very rapid relief from hay-fever when entering a cave thatswallows a stream, having walked very feverishly to it across meadows, and I ascribe this to a combination of high humidity and modest temperatureas well as lack of pollen in the cave's air.

Caves can be humid depending on their location and the surrounding environment. In general, caves tend to have higher humidity levels than the outside environment because of the lack of air circulation and the presence of moisture seeping through the rocks.

Why are some cave passages very humid?

Cave passages can be humid due to water seepage from the surrounding rock layers or the presence of underground streams and rivers. The lack of ventilation in caves also contributes to high humidity levels by trapping moisture in the air.

Caves are typically formed through a process called chemical weathering, where water and carbon dioxide form a weak carbonic acid that dissolves limestone. This process occurs over a long period of time in moist and humid conditions. However, caves can also form in other types of rock due to variations in weathering processes.

What is the weather like in caves?

The weather in caves is generally stable and unaffected by external conditions. Temperature and humidity levels are typically constant due to the insulating properties of the rock formations. Overall, cave environments tend to be cool and damp.

What are the different types of caves?

The main types of caves are solution caves, lava caves, sea caves, glacier caves, and talus caves. Solution caves form from the dissolution of soluble rocks like limestone; lava caves are created by flowing lava; sea caves are carved by the action of waves on coastal cliffs; glacier caves form within glaciers due to melting and refreezing processes; and talus caves are formed by fallen rocks creating cave-like structures.
