Since alcohol is a depressant itself, it is counteracting the effect of the anti-depressant. An occasional beer is probably okay. But if you are drinking more than one or two beers, most likely, it will hinder the effectiveness of the depression medication and make you feel worse.

No. Read the information provided with any medication and they will all tell you not to drink alcohol while taking them. The reasons vary from unwanted side-effects, to fatal chemical reactions, to counter-productive results.

With antidepressants specifically, drinking alcohol would be especially unwise, since alcohol is a depressant, which makes it counter-productive to the antidepressants. There may also be other negative effects.
