Even though it may make you happy when you smoke it and 3 to 5 hours after, sometimes people crash a little bit after it wears off, and become more depressed then before. But it usually never happens to me and i'm just more happy after it wears off.

This refers to it it being a central nervous system depressant , impairing brain function while present in the blood. This doesn't mean it "causes depression," even though it can and does in many chronic drinkers.

Because it can infiltrate the membranes of cells and make them stiffer, it is a classic anesthetic.

Not in the typical sense of boosting, or stopping the re-uptake of serotonin. It can however, lift the mood in general. But, it is classified as a depressant in that it slows breathing and the action of the central nervous system.

Alcohol puts to sleep the part of the brain that controls inhibitions. When our inhibitions are gone, we do crazy (sometimes stupid) things. Alcohol depresses the central nervous system. The first part of the brain to feel the effect is the part that contols logic and reason.

Alcohol is a depressant in that it slows or depresses the actions of the heart lungs, etc. It doesn't cause a depression of mood, however.
