Better (and the best) tequilas are distilled from 100% blue agave. However, by law, liquors can still be called tequila if they are made from more than 50% blue agave and the remainder from cane sugar. These tequilas are referred to as mixtos.
Tequila is made from the Blue Agave, a member of the lily family often mistaken for a cactus. The plant requires 8-12 years before reaching maturity. The agave is then harvested for the "Pina", basically the base / core, which when the stalks are cut away looks like the base of a pineapple. The Pina is cooked and juiced. The juices are then fermented and distilled twice. You now have 100% Blue Agave Silver / Platinum or Plata tequila (All mean the same thing.)
It is the source of sugar used to make the alcohol.
The main ingredient in tequila is the blue agave fermented sap. This plant is found in the city of Tequila in the country of Mexico. There are five varieties of tequila, each that use different ingredients.
Tequila is naturally gluten-free. nowadays however cheaper tequilas "mixto" might contain gluten as they are not made entirely from agave aswell as added sugar. In order to recognise gluten free tequila search for the label with "100% agave" on.
Tequila is usually 38% to 40% alcohol so they're all about the same strength. If you mean strong as in harsh, the general rule is silver is stronger than reposado is stronger than anejo and 51/49s (Like Jose Cuervo and Sauza) are stronger than 100% agave tequilas.
Patron tequila is made from 100% Weber blue agave plants grown in the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico. The agave hearts are harvested, cooked, crushed, fermented, distilled, and then aged (if applicable) to create the final product. Patron is known for its high-quality, handcrafted production process and attention to detail.

What distinguishes 1800 Tequila from other tequilas is the fact that they are made from 100% Blue Agave Tequila whereas most tequilas are more diluted.
Tequila is made from the Agave plant. Despite popular belief the Agave is not a cactus. It is a member of the Lilly family. There are 136 varieties of agave. Only the blue agave can be used to make the premium 100% agave tequila. After 8 to 12 years of growth, the agave is harvested and cut down to what is known as "The Pina", which is basically the heart / core of the plant. This core is cooked down to remove all the juice. The juices are then fermented, and distilled twice. You now have 100% Agave Silver Tequila. If you age that in a brandy barrel for 6-9 months you will have a Reposado tequila, which means "Rested." Aging the silver tequila for a year will yield an Anejo Tequila, which means "Aged."
