It was initially sold as a patent medicine for five cents a glass at soda fountains, which were popular in the United States at the time due to the belief that carbonated water was good for the health. It was claimed that Coca-Cola cured many diseases, including morphine addiction, dyspepsia, neurasthenia, headache, and impotence. It didn't of course.

Cola syrup, the thick sweet concoction to which they add carbonated water to make the coke you drink, is sometimes used to treat nausea. When I was a kid pharmacies carried little bottles of it and doctors would write prescriptions for it. I'm not sure if they still do though.

no. somebody droped cocoa syrup into carbonated water by accident and later made it into a drink, cocaine was later added and even later removed.
