The heart is an ancient symbol associated with emotions, specifically love; in other traditions (ancient Egypt) the heart was the seat of the mind; more recently hearts have been closely associated with St. Valentine and hence the Valentine offerings of cards and/or candy. For centuries couples have carved their initials in hearts to signify their affections for one another.
It has been my experience that we tend to "see" the things we are familiar with, so if your heart is seeking an answer, you may be sensitised to the presents of hearts. As there is no negative significance I know of that can be attached to the symbol of a heart, I would say you can assume these sightings to be positive.
