According to the legend, a spirit called the Black Hooded Man haunts the bridge and tunnel area of the Willow Lake. Willow Lake is on the corner of McCoy Drive and Frontenac Road. The legend says that the Black Hooded Man was killed by a passing train in 1904. It is said that he haunts the bridge and tries to scare off anyone who goes there a lot, because at the time of his death the bridge and tunnel were not there.
People starting coming to the spot more often when neighborhoods were built as well as a trail. The legend of the Black Hooded Man says that he had a younger sister named Annabelle who wrote letters to him. These letters can supposedly be found under the bridge. The Black Hooded Man was an alcoholic that had murdered someone early in his life. All of the people who knew the Black Hooded Man thought of him as a shady outcast. This legend has never been proven right or wrong.
The existence of The Black Hooded Man is unknown. If you are by the bridge you might hear moaning sounds coming from the tunnel behind it. He is angered by those who invade his territory, so he makes these moaning sounds to scare off those who trespass on his land for too long. The Black Hooded man was out one night after a fight with his mother. He was throwing rocks into the lake from the train track when a train came and tried to make a run for it. He was hit by the train and killed. Legend claims that when a train comes, he gets angry and throws rocks into the lake.
People say that his spirit is trapped in the tunnel, looking for a way out of Willow Lake. Some have claims of spotting the Black Hooded Man, having rocks thrown at them, or even feeling a cold hand brushing against their arm. The legend also states that the Black Hooded Man gives warnings to those who disturb him. He gives them five warnings before he attacks. The five warnings stand for the five letters in the word "Black".
