Unfortunately, we don't know the meaning of Soul. We think we have a Soul, we don't realize we are the Soul. Therefore, we wonder whether a part of the Soul exists after reincarnation. No, the whole exists. The Soul is everywhere, in everything - in everything in this world there is nothing but Soul. This body appears and disappears like a dream, the mind is an illusion, where it is you cannot find. We are actually the Divine Soul that appears as the body and mind. But because we don't realize we are the Divine Soul, we think we have a Soul, we think of parts of the Soul. There is nothing like a part of a Soul. It's just like asking - what happens to a part of the air of the atmosphere? You can't talk of a part of the air, there is one air in the atmosphere, there is one Soul in this universe. We must realize this truth.

Why is there an afterlife?

A belief in an afterlife is to accept that, after death, the human does, in some way, live on. This may be in different ways: Dualism considers the soul and body to be separate. The soul may then survive after death, even if the body does not. This is relevant in religions such as Hinduism, who favour theories of reincarnation. Materialism states that the body cannot be separated at all; therefore, if the body dies, the soul does, too. However, there may still be an afterlife, even considering this; John Hick composed a "replica" theory, which supposed that a new body was created for the soul to survive in, almost identical to the original body. This also coincides with Christian theories about reincarnation in heaven or hell. Monism considers the soul and body to be two distinct forms, but they are unable to be separated; this was Aristotle's belief, who considered the only afterlife that an individual could had to be a sense of reason that survived death. The individual's identity would always exist, even if they lost everything else.

Is belief in reincarnation part of both Buddhist and Hindu religions?

What does afterlife meen?

Life (spiritual) of the human spiritual body or soul, after death. Different religious traditions have differing theologies here- Heaven, Hell, Purgatory- or maybe reincarnation as Elsie Borden. Some religious traditions minimize the idea of the Afterlife, such as Judaism. Elaborate funeral practices are all but unknown. In part this might have helped or was intended to prevent desecration of graves, but this has happened, and too often.
