Dromaeosaurus went extinct about 75 to 65 MYA.
The dinosaurs referred to as "raptors" belonged to a family called dromaeosaurs. Scintists have identified 26 types of dromaeosaur.
Dromaeosaurs lived on every continent except Australia. However, dromaeosaur fossils have even been found in Antarctica.
There are over a dozen described skeletons of Velociraptor. There are more described skeletons of Velociraptor than there are of any other dromaeosaur.
Megaraptor ("giant thief") was once thought to be the largest dromaeosaur ever found, but is now known to be a more basal type of tetanuran, possibly a carnosaur or spinosaur.
The largest known species of dromaeosaur is Utahraptor. Utahraptor lived in North America about 126 million years ago. They were up to 23 feet in length, tipping the scales at about 1,000 pounds. Some unstudied specimens suggest that they could get even larger.
No Cretaceous dinosaurs, but since birds are now considered their descendents, even a finch or a chicken might be technically a dinosaur. If you want to see a living creature that still somewhat looks like a dinosaur (specifically a dromaeosaur) check your local zoo for cassowaries. Next best: emus.
Any bird is technically a dinosaur and Terror birds were the most similar to the actual beast of the Mesazoic. The body and stance of all species of terror bird were extremely similar to the body structure of therapod dinosaurs. Terror Birds were also very fast runners just like modern Ostriches and just like their Dromaeosaur ancestors.
Achillobator was a large member of the deadly clawed "raptor" dinosaurs. It would have had a very thick Achilles tendon on its heel to support the slasig action of its claw. The proportions of its big skull were similar to those of larger meat-eaters, not the more narrow heads of other dromaeosaur "raptors". Some researchers think that the fossils identified as belonging to this animal may belong to two diffrent types of dinosaurs.
Velociraptor belongs to the Dromaeosaur family which currently has over 20 different species. Achillobator Adasaurus Atrociraptor Austroraptor Bambiraptor Buitreraptor Cryptovolans Deinonychus Dromaeosauroides Dromaeosaurus Graciliraptor Hesperonychus Itemirus Luanchuanraptor Mahakala Microraptor Neuquenraptor Nuthetes Pyroraptor Rahonavis Saurornitholestes Shanag Sinornithosaurus Tsaagan Unenlagia Unquillosaurus Utahraptor Velociraptor
Giganotosaurus lived 97 million years ago in what is now Argentina. At the time the area had braided river system, and the local plants would have included conifers, cycads, ferns, horsetails, ginkgoes, and a few very primitive flowering plants. Other dinosaurs that shared this habitat include the sauropods (giant, long necked herbivores) Limaysaurus, Nopcsaspondylus, and Andesaurus, and these may have been prey animals for Giganotosaurus. There were also iguanodonts, relatives of Iguanodon, that definitely would have been prey for the Giganotosaurus. Other predatory dinosaurs that lived here include Ekrixinatosaurus, a 33 to 36 foot long abelisaur, Buitreraptor, a rooster sized dromaeosaur, Bicentenaria, an 8 to 10 foot long carnivore, and Alnashetri.
