If you removed carbs and replaced them with say protein, you would loose weight. Protein can not be stored as fat in the human body and is great for muscle growth. Carbs can be stored in the human as fat, so if you removed both protein and carbs you would die, as both of those give your body energy to survive.

Yes, a person can survive long term without carbohydrates. Just as the Inuit (Eskimos) did. Unlike protein and fats, carbohydrate is not an essential nutrient, which means is it not essential for health or to sustain life.
