Yes it is. Marzipan is a mixture of confectionery sugar, ground almond, and some rosewater.
Marzipan is not considered a pastry. Marzipan is a confection made of ground almonds or almond paste, egg whites, and sugar, often molded into decorative shapes. It can also be used to cover a cake as icing and can also be a filling for chocolates.
There are two types of Marzipan:1. Uncooked is made of ground blanched almonds, powdered sugar, meringue powder (dried egg white powder), and salt.2. Cooked is sugar, water and ground blanched almonds.Fondant is a semi-cooked mixture of powdered sugar, gelatin, water, glycerine (optional) and vegetable shortening. has no almonds, but can be flavored with almond extract.
Marsipan is made from icing sugar, ground almonds and the white of egg.
Given that Marzipan is sugar/ground almonds I just freeze any that is left over. It thaws very quickly and is pliable again. Mind you I love marzipan so it is seldom that I find any left over :)
Yes you can, but I would strongly recommend that you only but one or the other on the cake because marzipan tastes horrible with any topping apart from icing. Also marzipan is unbelievably high in sugar! Hope this helps.. x:)
