The body does not produce vitamin A; however the body can make vitamin A from a substance called beta carotene. Beta carotene is the orange/yellow color found in fruits and vegetables like carrots, pumpkin, peaches, apricots and sweet potatoes and is often referred to as the precurser of vitamin A or pre-formed vitamin A.

Yes. Of the more than 600 known carotenoids in plants, your body can convert about 50 (including alpha-carotene, beta-carotene, and beta-cryptoxanthin) into retinoids (retinoic acid, retinal, and retinol): a group of chemicals that we know as vitamin A.

The main vitamins that are produced in the body are vitamin D and K. Vitamin A can be reabsorbed but not manufactured.
