Seeds do not need sunlight to germinate because they already contain all the nutrients and energy they need to start growing. The process of germination typically begins when a seed absorbs water, which activates enzymes within the seed that kickstart growth. Sunlight becomes necessary only once the seed has sprouted and the seedling starts photosynthesizing to produce its own energy.

it's easy to plant a pumpkin seed all you have to do is take a pumpkin seed and make a small hole in a fertilized dirt. then you simply just place your seed in the hole and cover it up with the dirt. once step 2 has been done you simply water the are with the pumpkin seed and let it sit in sunlight. As weeks go by you should see a sprout and soon enough you will have a pumpkin plant and start the process over again! Happy Planting!
