Yes, Muthuraja were kings who ruled over Kaveri delta for more than 300 years. They have commissioned many big temples. They belong to kshatriya varna & have served in the Armies of most the dynasties that ruled tamil nadu, even after the end of Muthuraja rule. Status of muthurajas in towns & Villages of Trichy district is higher than other upper castes like Pillai, Mudhaliars etc.
