The United States uses metric for some things: Many liquid medicine dosages are specified in mL as well as teaspoon etc. Vaccinations are normally specified in cubic centimeters (cc), which is the same as mL.

Beverages state milliliters on the container, as well as fluid ounces. There are some sold specifically as a 500 mL soft drink, though. Anything can be. But usually, bullets, pencil erasers, and anything smaller than a centimeter are measured in millimeters.

It would be difficult to accurately measure 1 ml if the medicine bottle does not come with a dropper or medicine cup. One teaspoon is 5 ml so if you have a 1/4 tsp measuring spoon, this would be close at 1.25 ml.
