∙ 15y agoDepends on the stove, the kind of stove, and when. Do you mean a wood burning kitchen range from 1900 or a heating stove from 1940, or an electric range from 1960? Parts of the early Sears catalogs are available on line, and you can look at the price of things from around 1902.
If you are talking about the BURNER on/off knob then yes. Use it just like an electric one. If you are talking about the MAIN line going to the stove then no.
For natural gas, it normally is the responsibility of the gas company to make any repairs of gas lines outside of the dwelling. If you want a new gas line to lead to your new gas stove, it will cost you but that is rather nominal: about $30.
If you want to use an electric stove, first call a licensed gas fitter to remove the existing gas stove and make the gas pipe safe. Then call a licensed electrician to install a new power circuit for you, with the right size circuit breakers, the right size wiring and fit a new outlet of the right size and type to power an electric stove.
