"3 to 5 days."
I disagree. I have eaten flan that's been covered and refrigerated for 2 weeks. It was still tasty and it didn't upset my stomach at all.
In fact, when the flan hit 3 weeks, it still tasted good, but after eating a piece my stomach definitely made some weird noises.. Therefore, I would not recommend eating it after 1 - 2 weeks.
At most two days after cooking. Custard based desserts are one of the primary causes of foodpoisoning, so should ideally be eaten the same day as they were cooked.

Well it is made mostly of milk and eggs so if left out too long it will go bad pretty quickly. However, refrigerated flan thickens over time so in some cultures they actually wait a few days before eating it. If properly stored in an airtight container or sealed in plastic wrap it should stay good for about a week.
It will stay fresh for some hours. Not too long. So it depends how long the fridge been off. Too long is bad.
