Some locks on ovens just have to be slid to the other side in order to work. Newer ovens, have buttons that you push in order to lock the oven.

Why would oven light only work in self cleaning mode not baking or at rest and is there a fix?

I would suspect the light is on to remind you it is in self cleaning mode. Since the light itself works, I would look at the switch.

How do you clean melted plastic out of a self-cleaning oven?

The trick is in the name 'self cleaning'. Here's my answer : I have a Kenmore self cleaning oven and just used that function for the very first time and it works wonders. Here were the instructions from the manual : To set the Controls for a Self-clean cycle : 1. Be sure the clock shows the correct time of day. 2. Push the CLEAN pad. ''---'' appears in the display. 3. Push the UP ARROW pad until ''3:00' appears in the display for a 3 hour cycle, or push the DOWN ARROW pad until ''2:00'' appears in the display for a 2 hour cycle. 4. As soon as the UP or DOWN ARROW pad is released, ''CLN'' appears in the display. 5. As soon as the controls are set, the motor driven lock will begin to close automatically and the ''LOCK'' indicator light will flash. DO NOT open the door while the light is flashing (it takes about 15 seconds for the lock to close). 6. The ''LOCK'' light will glow until the cleaning cycle is completed or cancelled, and the oven temperature has cooled. When the Self-Clean Cycle is completed : 1. The time of day or ''End'' will appear in the display window and the ''Clean'' and ''LOCK'' light will continue to glow. 2. Once the oven has cooled down for about 1 hour and the ''LOCK'' light has gone out, the oven door can be opened. 3. If ''END'' is in display and the ''Clean'' indicator remains on, press CLEAR OFF pad. The time of day will appear in the display. Stopping or interrupting a self-cleaning cycle : If it becomes necessary to stop or interrupt a self-cleaning cycle due to excessive smoke or fire : 1. Push the CLEAN OFF pad. 2. Once the oven has cooled down for about 1 hour and the ''LOCK'' light has gone out, the oven door can be opened. 3. Correct the condition which caused the smoking. 4. Restart the self-clean cycle once all conditions have been corrected. If the oven isn't clean in some places you can use a bit of Easy-Off to take the stains out. Don't use your burners meanwhile ! Good luck with your cleaning !

How do you clean the GE Rapid Clean III Self Cleaning Oven?

Refer to the owner's manual, as not all self-cleaning ovens work the same way. Remove the racks and pans, and wipe off any liquids or grease that have not become baked on. Slide the door shield to the closed position, if applicable, and close the outer oven door. Turn the knobs to Clean. If your oven does not have that, set the temperature knobs to desired setting and be sure to end the cycle in 2 to 3 hours, after which time you can safely unlock the door.

How do you clean stove top grates?

if you have a self cleaning oven put the grates inside while the oven is cleaning. sometimes you have to set the oven to clean longer but it works great. leave the racks in the oven and place the grates on them. you can also place the metal burners in as well.

Maytag oven is on lock how do i unlock the oven?

Older ovens have manual locks, which consist of a lever at the top front of the door. Switching the lever to one side locks the oven and the other side unlocks it. This helps prevent a child from accidentally opening the oven while hot. Newer ovens may have electro-mechanical locks which are operated via the digital control panel, and may not have any external switch; since this is a seldom-used feature, usually there won't be a dedicated control button to lock/unlock the oven, but only perhaps a tiny padlock symbol as a hint. There is usually a specific key combination that activates and deactivates the lock. This will vary by model and brand, unfortunately, so there is no simple answer. Usually, you have to know the key combination to lock it (usually two keys pressed at once, such as the light switch and the timer switch), and thus you will know the key combination to unlock it. Try a few of the more inocuous accessory keys (that don't turn the oven on or off), and listen for the motor or solenoid that operates the lock. Problems generally only arise during cleaning cycles on self-cleaning electronic ovens. When a self-cleaning cycle is started, the ovens will automatically lock for safety (during cleaning cycles, the ovens will max out their highest temperature capability, perhaps 550 degrees or higher). They will not unlock until the temperature has dropped to a safe temperature. If this is the case, simply wait until the oven has cooled down. This can be inconvenient if a cleaning cycle was accidentally started when the oven was needed, but such is life. Most likely, the power supply to the oven was interrupted during a cleaning cycle, due to a blown fuse (or tripped circuit breaker) or power outage, and so the oven is stuck in the locked position. A quick fix would be to run a short self-cleaning cycle, after which the oven will automatically unlock itself. But, the best idea would be to consult the user manual, or find an online user's manual through the retailer or manufacturer's website, by searching for the stove's model number. If the proper procedure doesn't work, then the solenoid or motor that operates the locking mechanism may be faulty, in which case, professional service may be required. As a last resort before paying for an expensive service call, examine the trim panel near the front center of the stove, or carefully remove it -- you'll likely find a manual release button. But, for safety's sake, please don't defeat this safety mechanism -- proper repair is in order.

What are the instructions for cleaning a Maytag double oven?

Don't use self clean. Go buy oven cleaner, gloves, metallic brushes or what ever it takes to clean it by hand. The older your stove is the higher chance self clean will over heat something and break the stove. ESPECIALLY ON MAYTAG DOUBLE WALL OVENS (And it's a complete nightmare to repair) You're looking at 300-700 dollars worth of work because that wall oven Whirlpool made (same company) charges you for a core fee on the mainboard and also always comes as some kind of kit (manufacture bandaid) and has to be uninstalled to fix it.

How do you remove melted aluminum foil from the bottom of the newer model self-cleaning oven?

With the older models of self-cleaning ovens one could put aluminum foil on the bottom tray of the oven, but with the newer models there is a warning (hidden in the last line) of your booklet for models of stoves where aluminum foil should 'not' be used! Even though print in small and many consumers are complaining regarding their stoves and melted aluminum stuck to the bottom tray of their oven (nothing will get it off) all manufacturer do 'not' cover this problem under warranty and thus, it will cost you $44 to buy a new tray. You unscrew the two screws to the bottom of the damaged tray of your oven and then install the new one and put back the screws. Letters of complaint should be written to the manufacturers to have them put this warning in clear bold print right on the front cover of the instruction brochure.
