put at least five in a tank as oysters (make sure there are some sand in the tank)are ambisexual and can slip back and forth many times as a male or female and ohhh....!! If you are lucky, a chip of sand might have slipped into an oyster and..... tadahhh!!(Boom!) Congrats!! You now have a pearl (or at least a minature one) because you might have to wait a year for a fully developed one (mabye can be your mum's next year's birthday present) or you can just keep as souvenier... :)

An oyster can fertilize its own egg, or have it fertilized by a male oyster. Once fertilized the eggs are released into the ocean, where the larvae develop in 6 hours, swim for weeks, and eventually find a place to mature.
