You don't. Wood cannot withstand the extreme temperatures, water, enzymes, and bleach in a dishwasher. While a wood utensil or dish may tolerate the dishwasher, its lifespan will be far shorter than if it were hand-washed in the sink. And, the wooden item may very well become misshapen or "furry" (when the fibers break and bend, resulting in the fibers sticking out from the body of the piece).
