Put in "No More Yellow" (not yellow out) into the dishwasher and run it through a cycle. (empty, of course). Then run the dishwasher at least once more to clean out any existing residue. No More yellow is toxic, but as long as you put the dishwasher through a full cycle once again, it will be fine. It is also the best I have found for getting rust out of clothes.

To remove rust stains from dishes, you can use lemon juice and salt on the stain spots and let this mixture remain on the dishes for at least 24 hours before removing them with water. You can repeat the process if some stains remain. During the 24 hours, you should add small drops of the lemon juice to keep the rust spots moist.
Use more salt than water to make a paste, then rub it on the rust stain. There are a variety of products that will effectively remove rust, some of which are: * Wink Rust Remover is a liquid, which allows you to just squirt it on the rust, wait a few seconds, then rinse it off, with no scrubbing required. * Iron Out and Zud are powder forms of rust remover, both of which are effective, as well. But being in powder form, there will be some scrubbing required. Before using any of these products, make sure they will be safe for your sink, bathtub, shower, etc., if they are colored. Also, Wink Rust Remover and Iron Out can be used to remove rust stains from white clothing and other fabric items. As with any other cleaners and chemicals, always follow the directions closely.
Use baking soda (or toothpaste that contains baking soda) and a ScotchBrite scrub. Don't use steel wool!
Rust can be removed by using citric acid. Just cover the affected area with it, and let it sit.
